What I explore. Universal, organic rhythms and celebration of spirit are constant themes as I analyze the elements of the natural world in my art. Water. An ever-changing element, water allows endless interpretation of liquidity and light. Joyful and free, mystery folds over and over upon itself within the depths of these works. The rules are always to be broken with youthful exuberance and abundant gesture. Solids are liquified, and a rainbow of colors wash the spectrum of the eye. Abstracts. Just as written language is uniquely human, so do my abstracts relate their own language of mood, light and rhythm. Soothing and vibrant, subtle and exciting, they negotiate opposites in a minimalist approach. Composition and depth of unconscious expression are conduits between the mind and the eye. Animals. I integrate the elements of Sky, Earth and Spirit in my compositions to relate interdependence and unity of purpose. I eliminate other visual possibilities such as flora in the "real" sense, concentrating my efforts toward the spiritual plane. Colors are interpreted much as they are remembered from the human dreamscape, in saturated complementary forms. The spirit of the Southwest is alive within these paintings. Channeling from the dreamscape of my mind, I interpret the larger-than-life energy inherent in New Mexico's landscape, wildlife and folklore. Animals in these dreamscapes are more than mere bodies while they coax the land and sky as would gods with their magic-making, speaking an ancient language and foretelling what will be. The animals are the story-tellers; they mold and are molded by the land as they interact with their wordless agenda, singing silent songs. My life in art. Rich in the arts and saturated in the histories of Native American and Hispanic heritage as well as a vibrant modern art scene, Santa Fe is one of America's top three art centers. I was drawn to Santa Fe, and away from my corporate life in New York City, in pursuit of my vision to put onto canvass the dreams I have been having since I left the Mohave desert in 1978. These animal dreams made me perform in the first person, a flying raven upon the thermals creating clouds with her wings, a running coyote along the edge of an arroyo making a river with her feet. Often these dreams would recur, compelling me to the canvas for the record. As I explore Earth's offerings my attentions shift from animal, to elements, to abstractions with the same eye for the Spirit. I spent several years observing the unique Santa Fe cultural phenomenon of creating art as a standard of everyday living before beginning my own artistic pursuit. Having run a bed and breakfast for the first 4 years in Santa Fe, I became acquainted with the local customs, landscape and wildlife. Upon the birth of my girl in 2005, the bed and breakfast was sold, and through the next 4 years I cherished motherhood and concentrated on graphic design as my artistic vision stayed within. One day, my 4-year-old, exasperated by finding her mother working on a corporate project, asked why I was always on the computer. Thinking that I would keep the explanation simple, I told her that it was "what I did for a living," to which my daughter replied, "No it's not; you're an artist." That blessed gift of innocent wisdom bestowed upon my heart by my daughter put me into the trajectory of creating art as my primary focus as I represent and sell the art of others at my Canyon Road gallery. My art is available for viewing at Canyon Road Contemporary Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico, I am also a member of the Santa Fe Society of Artists.
